Seventh Grade Ceramics

Students were tasked with designing and crafting a tripod vessel inspired by stylized or abstract representations of the human figure, animals, or codex found in Pre-Columbian cultures. They explored and analyzed the formal and functional roles of Pre-Columbian vessels, while also reflecting on the modern-day form and function of their own creations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the stylistic elements and symbolism in Pre-Columbian art and culture.

  2. Explore the formal and functional aspects of Pre-Columbian vessels.

  3. Apply knowledge of historical design principles to create a modern tripod vessel.

  4. Develop skills in design, sculpture, and craftsmanship.

  5. Analyze the relationship between form and function in both ancient and contemporary vessels.

  6. Experiment with materials and techniques to create a unique, functional art piece.

  7. Reflect on how cultural influences shape design decisions in both historical and modern contexts.
